Physical Security Technician

About the role

The Physical Security Technician is responsible for installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting physical security systems across TMWA facilities. Day-to-day work includes configuring and servicing alarm systems, access control devices, surveillance equipment, and related hardware and software to help protect critical infrastructure. The role involves monitoring system performance, responding to security-related incidents or alerts, performing preventive maintenance, and documenting work performed in accordance with organizational standards.

The technician collaborates with operations, IT, and safety teams to ensure that physical security measures align with network security practices, cybersecurity standards, and occupational health requirements. This position also supports periodic inspections, system upgrades, and user training to maintain reliable and compliant security operations.

Qualifications

• Ability to troubleshoot and diagnose issues with physical security equipment and related systems.
• Knowledge of cybersecurity and network security practices as they relate to physical security systems.
• Experience working with alarm systems, access control, and video surveillance technologies.
• Understanding of occupational health and safety standards in utility or industrial environments.
• Relevant technical training or certification in security systems, electronics, IT, or a related field.
• Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and system documentation.
• Strong attention to detail, recordkeeping skills, and ability to follow established procedures.
• Capacity to work on-site across multiple facilities, including occasional fieldwork and after-hours support.
• Effective communication and teamwork skills to coordinate with cross-functional departments.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to meet any required background checks or security clearances.
