About the role
Binghamton University is a premier public R1 research institution in the State University of New York (SUNY) system. The Lead Programmer/Analyst (SL-3) will serve as a go-to problem solver for physical security servers and systems, while collaborating with campus partners to implement innovative security solutions.
Responsibilities
- System Maintenance and Troubleshooting: Maintain and resolve issues on physical security servers and systems across Windows, Linux, and Mac platforms; conduct system installations and upgrades for software and hardware such as server OS installations and software packages managing door access and CCTV; maintain system integrity through regular backups and updates.
- Access Control: Work with data feeds from multiple sources (student information system, HR system, ID card system) to implement business rules and logic within door access control systems; ensure secure and efficient inheritance of access levels across the university.
- Mobile Credentialing: Lead the configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of a mobile credentialing system; collaborate with stakeholders to implement secure mobile access solutions for the campus community.
- Innovation and Emerging Technologies: Identify opportunities for process improvements and recommend modifications to enhance security posture; implement new technologies such as camera analytics for life safety and operational benefits; utilize analytical skills to extract insights from data to enhance security and efficiency.
- Collaborative Project Leadership: Work closely with campus partners including the NYS University Police Department, Physical Facilities, and Residential Life to provision security controls for new construction/renovation projects and life-safety solutions.
- Data Analytics and Reporting: Monitor security conditions using data analytics; advise on risk mitigation strategies; set up and manage automated and custom reporting to inform decision-making.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field or an Associate’s degree and at least two years of experience in an Information Technology related field.
- Professional experience in a relevant IT field such as system administration, database administration, or network administration.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with senior management, contractors, and diverse stakeholders.
- Attention to detail, problem-solving abilities, and organizational skills; ability to work effectively under pressure, meet deadlines, and impart these skills to colleagues.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team or independently; adapt to a culturally diverse environment and handle sensitive information with discretion.
- Hands-on experience with Genetec Security Center (VMS, ALPR, and ACS).
- Experience with Information Security, Risk Management, and/or certifications such as PSP, CPP, or CPTED.
- Knowledge of the latest physical security technologies, including camera analytics, drone technology, and proactive critical incident response solutions.
- Experience with IT Service Management (ITSM) tools, especially TeamDynamix.
- Experience with development of Data Use Agreements.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting building plans and schematics.
- Experience in a large, complex academic or research technology environment.
