About the role

The Chemical Engineering department at Stanford University is seeking a Physical Science Research Professional to support Professor William Tarpeh's research lab. This role supports innovative projects aimed at reimagining liquid waste streams as resources, focusing on resource recovery from waste waters at various scales.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement experimental protocols
  • Coordinate laboratory activities for efficient workflow
  • Conceptualize and construct prototypes related to wastewater treatment across various disciplines
  • Develop innovative and sophisticated technical solutions and methodologies
  • Prepare comprehensive documentation capturing observations, analyses, and interpretations of research results
  • Assist in drafting proposals and establishing a research vision for community-oriented translation and evaluation projects
  • Coordinate with collaborators for fieldwork, including site visits, and train students on community-engaged research methods and best practices
  • Conduct both laboratory work and fieldwork to advance various projects

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree and six years of experience in related scientific fields, or combination of education and relevant experience
  • Advanced experience applying multidisciplinary scientific principles and practices to provide technical leadership, influence experimental design, and coordinate laboratory activity
  • Experience developing complex technical solutions and methods within general research goals and parameters
  • Advanced experience with analysis and interpretation of research data, and ability to recognize and resolve irregularities and invalid results
  • Significant experience with scientific software applications, systems, or programs relevant for the job
  • Experience providing technical leadership on complex research projects, including developing experimental processes and procedures
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing

Benefits

The position offers competitive compensation with a range of $131,188 - $149,712 per annum for positions in Stanford Work Locations. Physical requirements include standing, walking, twisting, bending, stooping, squatting, grasping lightly, using fine manipulation, grasping forcefully, performing desk-based computer tasks, using telephone, writing by hand, lifting, carrying, pushing and pulling objects weighing up to 50 pounds. Working conditions may expose the individual to high voltage electricity, radiation or electromagnetic fields, lasers, noise >80 dB TWA, chemicals, asbestos and heavy metals. The role may involve working in confined spaces, at heights, and temperature extremes. Extended or unusual work hours may be required based on research and project requirements.

Pay

$131,188 - $149,712 per annum for positions in Stanford Work Locations.
