About the role

Ho-Chunk Inc. Management Services (HCIM) is seeking a full-time Physical Readiness Program Instructor based at the U.S. Department of State, Foreign Affairs Security Training Center (FASTC) in Blackstone, VA. The instructor will be responsible for administrative coordination of the program, including maintaining records and test scores, scheduling training and testing events, organizing equipment, and preparing training materials. The incumbent will also support training delivery as an instructor in physical fitness, functional fitness, basic nutrition, injury prevention, and sports medicine care.

Responsibilities

  • Plans, organizes, and provides basic and advanced fitness instruction and other related physical readiness topics for both domestic and overseas programs in all environmental conditions (indoor and outdoor). Topics include cardio/respiratory endurance, stamina, strength, flexibility, power, speed, coordination, agility, balance, and accuracy, as well as injury prevention, mobility work, and basic sports medicine care for exercise-induced injuries.
  • Administers sponsored DS fitness programs in accordance with DS standards and policies.
  • Performs Training Safety Officer/role player controller in supported tasks.
  • Reviews established training objectives, lesson plans, training materials, and instructional methods prior to the beginning of assigned courses.
  • Complies with all Federal Law Enforcement Training Accreditation (FLETA) accreditation standards.
  • Researches and reviews current industry fitness standards related to the DS mission and introduces applicable information.
  • Resolves problems that occur in the preparation for and during training.
  • Evaluates training effectiveness to ensure that training objectives have been met by reviewing trainee evaluations, feedback from instructors, and personal observations.
  • Identifies need for revision to course content, materials, or instructional methods to improve training curriculum effectiveness and quality.
  • Evaluates the impact of planned or projected changes in DS physical readiness programs and recommends updates or complete curriculum reviews.
  • Provides budget estimates for assigned courses and monitors expenditure of funds to ensure optimum efficiency.
  • Participates in curriculum review conferences as a subject matter expert in physical fitness/readiness, injury prevention, and instructional coaching techniques.
  • Assists instructors in other physical readiness-related subjects and conducts practical exercises when needed.
  • Presents physical readiness/fitness briefings to a wide range of audiences, including senior officials.
  • Establishes and maintains liaison with law enforcement, security, military, government, and civilian organizations interested in physical fitness/readiness, emergency medical care, injury prevention, and instructional coaching techniques.
  • Maintains proficiency in current physical fitness techniques, methods, and procedures through training sessions, seminars, and workshops.
  • Assists in scheduling and planning classes by coordinating with program coordinators and other training entities.
  • Assigns instructors and test proctors as needed to assist in training sessions.
  • Ensures training is consistent with current legal and liability restrictions.
  • Provides physical fitness briefings and submits training records in a timely manner.
  • Records physical readiness test scores in the DSET QUALS database promptly.
  • Serves as a subject matter expert for the design of new training and evaluates new training courses and instructional materials.
  • Assists with equipment inventory and maintenance for assigned training programs.
  • Maintains the DS Readiness Program global mailboxes for recording scores, scheduling tests, and fielding questions.
  • Assists in communication and scheduling for Pre-hire PRT testing with HR and Field Offices/Overseas Posts.
  • Provides Fitness Center Orientations for any Fitness Centers under the Training Directorate.
  • Maintains records of fitness center liability waivers and the Fitness Library Resource Database.

Requirements

  • At least five (5) years of instructor experience.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of relevant physical fitness training experience.
  • High school diploma required; bachelor’s or associate degree in a fitness career field preferred.
  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in an accredited exercise science discipline, health science, or physical education-related discipline preferred.
  • Must have or be able to attain a current CPR certification.
  • Must have or be able to attain a Certified Personal Trainer (CPT) certification from a third-party accreditor recognized by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA).
  • Possess certification by the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) as a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) or the Strength & Conditioning Coach Certified (SCCC) through the Collegiate Strength & Conditioning Coaches Association (CSCCA).
  • Minimum of five (5) years of demonstrable experience developing long and short-range planning and coordination of sport/mission-specific performance programs for individual athletes or groups at the collegiate, Olympic, professional, or tactical athlete level.
  • Excellent people and organizational skills.
  • Expert knowledge of physical fitness, functional fitness, basic nutrition, injury prevention, and sports medicine care.
  • Familiarity with law enforcement/military fitness training and testing methods preferred.
  • Ability to analyze, predict, and preclude situations to ensure safe training.
  • Skill in oral and written communications to present training to a variety of audiences.
  • Knowledge of adult learning principles, course development, instructional presentation methods, and evaluating training effectiveness.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of advanced concepts, principles, and practices to provide training in physical readiness methods.

Security and Workplace

  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Must possess or be able to obtain/maintain a Secret security clearance.
  • All Native Group is a Drug-Free Workplace; new hires must successfully complete a pre-employment drug screen, and employees are subject to random drug screens.

Schedule

  • Full-time position, typically Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
  • Evening and weekend hours required as needed.
  • Periodic local travel (Washington, DC area) and occasional travel within and outside the United States may be required.

Work Environment

This job operates in a professional office environment and routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.

Physical Demands

  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position 75% of the time.
  • Occasionally moves about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.
  • Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery.
  • Must convey detailed or important spoken instructions accurately, loudly, or quickly.
  • Frequently moves standard office equipment up to 25 pounds.
  • Must work indoors 90% of the time.
  • Ability to complete work requiring regular and recurring physical and mental exertion, long periods of standing and walking, periodic heavy lifting, and irregular hours.
  • Ability to work in unpleasant or adverse environmental conditions, such as extreme heat and cold.
