Physical Education Teacher (Grades K-6)

About the role

Mystic Valley Regional Charter School is seeking an enthusiastic and student-centered Physical Education Teacher to provide engaging instruction for students in Grades K–6. The school, founded in 1998, serves more than 1,750 students in Kindergarten through Grade 12. Consistently recognized among the top public schools in Massachusetts, New England, and the nation, MVRCS prepares students for exceptional post-secondary success through a rigorous academic program.

Responsibilities

• Plan and deliver engaging physical education instruction aligned with the school's curriculum and instructional philosophy.
• Develop age-appropriate lessons that promote physical fitness, motor skill development, teamwork, sportsmanship, and healthy lifestyles.
• Foster a safe, positive, and inclusive environment that encourages active participation and respect for others.
• Supervise students during indoor and outdoor physical education activities, ensuring safe use of equipment and adherence to safety procedures.
• Absorb student progress and maintain accurate records of participation, skill development, and academic performance.
• Prepare progress reports and report cards as required.
• Collaborate regularly with classroom teachers, administrators, and colleagues to support student success.
• Implement the school's assertive discipline model and maintain consistent classroom expectations.
• Attend faculty meetings, professional development sessions, and other required school events.
• Perform additional duties assigned by the Assistant Director or Leadership Team.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Physical Education, Exercise Science, Kinesiology, or a related field required.
• Massachusetts Physical Education licensure (or eligibility to obtain licensure).
• Strong knowledge of elementary physical education curriculum, child development, and age-appropriate instructional practices.
• Excellent classroom management and student engagement skills.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to build positive relationships with students, families, and colleagues.
• Strong organizational, leadership, and collaboration skills.
• Ability to perform responsibilities in accordance with school policies and applicable state and federal regulations.
• Successful completion of applicable Massachusetts MTEL requirements within one year of employment.
