As a Physical Education Teacher, you will be part of a research-backed model that emphasizes deep learning, mentorship, and continuous improvement. You will mentor the same group of students each year, building strong relationships and coaching them toward personal goals. During Project Time, you will teach universal skills through real-world deep learning projects, using your subject-area expertise to help students apply their knowledge.

Responsibilities

• Teach 90-minute blocks in high school or four 55-minute blocks in middle school per day of project time, facilitating deep learning experiences that develop cognitive skills and apply content knowledge to real-world situations.
• Build and maintain deep relationships with students as a mentor, meeting daily with a small group of mentees and coaching them 1:1 toward their personal goals.
• Facilitate Self-Directed Learning time and daily literacy or math interventions, providing student support and monitoring progress.
• Analyze student data, build lesson plans, and support school culture between teaching blocks.
• Participate in twice-weekly after-school faculty meetings for collaboration, professional development, and grade-level or subject-level teamwork.
• Engage in continuous improvement through regular coaching sessions, feedback, and professional development opportunities.
• Support all diverse students in intentionally heterogeneous schools, ensuring equitable learning pathways.

Requirements

• Teaching Credential in Washington or another U.S. state.
• Bachelor’s Degree (a Master’s Degree in Education is preferred but not required).
• Clear health and background check.

Qualifications

• Teaching experience in your subject is preferred but not required.
• Passion for being a world-class deep learning (project-based) teacher.

• Willingness to teach Summit’s common curriculum and assessment system, designed for teachers by teachers.
• Dedication to working in intentionally heterogeneous schools and supporting all students.

• Commitment to serving as a mentor and advocate for students, including having hard conversations when necessary.
• Spanish language proficiency is a plus.

Pay

The salary for this position ranges from $67,649 to $106,155, commensurate with experience and qualifications.

Schedule

• Student school day: approximately 8:00–8:30 AM to 3:00–3:30 PM, depending on the school.
• Teacher workday: begins no earlier than 8:00 AM and ends no later than 5:00 PM.
• Twice-weekly after-school faculty meetings for collaboration and professional development.
