Physical Education Teacher/Building Sub (LTE 1 year)

Starting salary: $52,918 + (based on experience). This position is for the 2026-27 school year only.

About the role

Teaches physical education activities to students in the District. This position covers Physical Education classes for 0.5 FTE and the remaining FTE as a Building Substitute, covering where needed in the building.

Responsibilities

• Plans delivery of physical education curriculum to promote development of student's physical attributes.
• Teaches district-approved curriculum.
• Plans, implements, reviews, and modifies curriculum to meet the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students.
• Develops instructional plans and organizes class time to provide a balanced program of instruction, demonstration, work time, and assessment.
• Identifies pupil needs and makes appropriate referrals; develops and implements individual education plans and 504 plans.
• Confers with students, parents, and other staff to resolve student problems.
• Selects, stores, orders, issues, and inventories equipment, materials, and supplies used in the physical education program; responsible for putting equipment away and facility security.
• Provides qualitative and quantitative feedback to students; participates in parent/teacher conferences and open houses.
• Attends staff and department meetings.
• Continues professional growth.
• Supervises all students in class and in the locker room area.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in physical education.
• Must possess or be eligible to hold a current Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction license in physical education, code 530.
• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, and legal documents.
• Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from students, parents, staff, or administrators.
• Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
• Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
• Ability to define problems, collect data, and draw valid conclusions.
• Ability to interpret technical instructions in diagrammatic form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
• Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional programs; ability to plan and implement lesson plans based on district and building goals and the needs and abilities of students.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, peers, parents, administrators, and the community.
• Ability to direct others, work with people, and influence people in their opinions, attitudes, and judgments.

Physical Demands

• Regularly required to stand, walk, and talk or hear.
• Frequently required to use hands to finger, feel, and reach with hands and arms.
• Occasionally required to climb or balance, and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
• Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
• Specific vision abilities required include distance vision, close vision, and peripheral vision.
• Shall complete a physical examination as required by Wisconsin Statute 118.25.

Work Environment

• Occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions.
• Noise level in the environment is usually moderate to loud.
