About the Role

Madera Community College seeks an equity-minded Photography Instructor to teach part-time courses on campus and/or at off-site community locations. Madera Community College enrolls over 8,500 students, with 67% identifying as Latinx, 9% as Asian/Pacific Islander, 3% as Black/African American, 17% as White, 1% as American Indian/Alaska Native, and 3% as multiracial. The college is a Hispanic-Serving Institution.

Responsibilities

  • Teach a part-time schedule of Photography courses as assigned;
  • Use a variety of pedagogies and integrate instructional delivery systems, including technology for face-to-face, online, and/or hybrid formats;
  • Communicate effectively with students, faculty, and staff;
  • Use effective teaching methods appropriate to the subject matter and adhere to institutionally approved curriculum;
  • Evaluate student progress through tests, examinations, written assignments, and oral responses;
  • Provide course syllabi to students;
  • Maintain classroom records in accordance with District Policy;
  • Submit student grading and evaluation reports in a timely manner;
  • Teach assignments in various instructional settings and times, including as needed;
  • Fulfill all duties and responsibilities of instructors as required by Administrative Regulation 7122;
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

All candidates must demonstrate evidence of:

  • Responsiveness to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students;
  • Commitment to equity-minded practice within the classroom.

Qualifications

  • Master’s in photography, fine arts, or art; or
  • Bachelor’s in any of the above and Master’s in art history or humanities; or
  • A valid California Community College Credential; or
  • The equivalent education and/or experience (requires an equivalency).

Desirable Qualifications

  • Experience incorporating elements of diversity, equity, and inclusion into all areas of responsibility;
  • Recent experience working with African American, Asian/Pacific Islander, Latinx, Native American, and other racially minoritized students;
  • Willingness to examine and remediate instructional, relational, and classroom practices to support racially minoritized students;
  • Related work and professional experience;
  • Experience working with students of various cultural, gender, age, socioeconomic, and ethnic backgrounds, including students with disabilities;
  • Experience with traditionally underrepresented student populations, such as students of color and foster youth;
  • Experience facilitating multicultural and cross-cultural communication;
  • Sensitivity to and experience with under-prepared and high-need students;
  • Ability to work collaboratively with faculty and staff to enhance instruction, curriculum, and student success;
  • Ability to use computers and other technologies for high-quality instruction;
  • Effective communication skills with students and staff;
  • Knowledge of current assessment methods and materials;
  • Knowledge of the community college and its mission and goals.

Pay

Newly hired part-time faculty will be placed on step one (1) of the Part-Time Faculty Salary Schedule. Salary classification placements are based on education and experience as outlined in the Part-Time Faculty Salary Classifications. Sick leave accrual is based on assignment hours.
