About the role

The Madera Community College Center is committed to educating its racially and socioeconomically diverse student population. As of Fall 2017, the center enrolls over 5,000 students, with significant representation from Latinx, Asian, Black/African American, and White communities. The center is a Hispanic-Serving Institution, emphasizing the importance of serving the educational needs and economic well-being of the local community.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain standards of professional conduct and ethics appropriate to the position.
  • Teach developmental and transfer art courses.
  • Use a variety of pedagogies and integrate technology for face-to-face, online, and hybrid formats.
  • Communicate effectively with students.
  • Evaluate student progress through tests, examinations, written assignments, and oral responses.
  • Provide course syllabi to students.
  • Maintain classroom records in accordance with District Policy.
  • Turn in all required student grading and evaluation reports in a timely manner.
  • Fulfill all duties and responsibilities of instructors as required by Administrative Regulation 7122.

Requirements

The ideal candidate will have a Master’s in fine arts, art, or art history; or a Bachelor’s in any of these areas and a Master’s in humanities; or a valid California Community College Credential; or a combination of education and experience that demonstrates the ability to meet the minimum qualifications.

The successful candidate will demonstrate responsiveness to and understanding of diverse student populations, particularly African American, Latinx, Native American, and other racially minoritized students. They should also show experience working with these groups and a willingness to address issues of equity in the classroom.

Qualifications

  • Master’s in fine arts, art, or art history.
  • Bachelor’s in any of the above and a Master’s in humanities.
  • A valid California Community College Credential.
  • Equivalent education and/or experience.

Skills

The ideal candidate will have teaching experience at the secondary or post-secondary level, experience in the breadth of courses taught, and knowledge of current curriculum and assessment standards in art education. They should also have experience using computer-assisted instruction and other instructional technologies, excellent communication skills, and the ability to develop new curriculum and focus on student learning outcomes.

Benefits

Starting salary ranges from $38.67 – $52.55 for lab positions and $38.30 – $52.05 for non-instructional positions. Sick leave accrual is based on assignment hours.
