About the Club
The Callawassie Island Photography Club is a welcoming community for photographers of all levels—from camera phone enthusiasts to professionals. The club fosters learning, creativity, and camaraderie through its Mentoring Program, where experienced members guide newcomers in improving their skills. It’s as much a social club as it is a learning environment, reflecting the inclusive spirit of Callawassie Island.
Annual Exhibit: "Up Close and Personal"
This year’s exhibit, themed around macro photography, will showcase extreme close-up images, from literal subjects like a bird’s beak to abstract expressions of affection. The event will be held in the Dogwood Room at the Callawassie Island Clubhouse, with photos on display from Friday, November 10 through Sunday, November 12.
- Approximately 30 members will contribute around 75 photographs.
- All photos are presented in a uniform 11×14” format, mounted on foam board panels—no framing costs for participants.
- The exhibit is non-competitive, with a Viewer’s Choice award voted on by attendees for the top three entries.
The opening reception will take place on Saturday, November 11 from 6–9 p.m., featuring hors d’oeuvres, wine, and an opportunity to mingle with fellow photography enthusiasts.
Club Activities & Collaborations
Members explore diverse photography styles while documenting the island’s natural beauty and special events. The club frequently collaborates with other island groups, such as the Callawassie Island Ecology Club, to identify species and promote cross-club engagement.
Photography from the club is often used for promotional purposes, capturing the island’s vibrant community and stunning landscapes. Members describe it as a privilege to preserve the island’s beauty through their lenses.
Membership & Dues
- Annual dues: $20 (additional fees may apply for special events or guest speakers).
- Open to all residents; new members can join at any time.
