Responsibilities

• Maintains an atmosphere of enthusiastic customer awareness with an emphasis on fast and friendly customer service.
• Assists customers by making product suggestions and engages in suggestive selling via telephone, in-store intercom, and one-on-one interaction.
• Answers and responds to incoming calls appropriately and resolves customer complaints, reporting to the Store Director as needed.
• Builds grocery displays, rotates and discards outdated or spoiled product, and ensures cleanliness of work area and department.
• Implements effective promotional and seasonal displays and assists with coordinating grocery sales promotions.
• Ensures merchandise is correctly priced and displayed, shelves are clean, and department standards are maintained.
• Follows company policies and guidelines as outlined in the Albertsons/Tom Thumb Employee Handbook.
• Enforces proper code dating for all products within the department and assists with physical inventory every 6 months.
• Controls inventory to ensure adequate product quantity, quality, and freshness, maintaining levels according to division directives.
• Stocks and rotates product, and may assist with ordering grocery products.
• Supervises reclamation processing and maintains orderly and stocked conditions in back room and grocery department areas.
• Controls shrink and cost, implements correct product preparation techniques, and operates related equipment (e.g., pallet jack, hand truck, knives, safety cutters, Sterilox machine).
• Performs receiving duties, including breaking downloads, verifying orders, inspecting quality, reporting shortages, stocking, and rotating product.
• Adheres to product temperature and storage guidelines, follows proper packaging techniques, and processes administrative paperwork.
• Accurately completes and maintains daily logs, sales and labor records, and other required paperwork.
• Ensures proper temperature levels for product and complies with retail labeling laws, federal and state regulations, and company policies.
• Complies with workplace safety rules, ensures safety and sanitation of work area, cooler, equipment, and display areas.
• Implements emergency procedures for equipment and software malfunctions and operates electronic ordering devices.
• Complies with company grooming standards and dress code and performs all duties safely, accurately, and with honesty and integrity.

Skills & Physical Requirements

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to maintain a professional demeanor with customers and co-workers.
• Ability to frequently reach, lift, and maneuver objects up to approximately 50 lbs.
• Frequent bending, stooping, and reaching; pushes and pulls fully loaded hand trucks and pallet jacks.
• Performs repetitious arm movements for product preparation, packaging, and display.
• Manual dexterity and good eye-hand coordination required.
• Ability to stand for long periods and maintain mental alertness for safe and accurate work completion.
• Knowledge of basic mathematics, weights and measures, product variety, perishability, handling, sanitation, and department policies.
• Operates telephone, pallet jack, hand truck, knives, scissors, safety cutters, Sterilox machine, and electronic ordering devices.
• Utilizes cleaning supplies and equipment and may be required to work nights, weekends, and holidays with varying scheduled hours.
• Good attendance is required.
• Exposure to potential hazards with equipment and work aids necessary for job duties.

Work Environment

Generally works in a temperature-controlled environment with frequent exposure to refrigerated conditions and items at or around 35°. May be exposed to -20° F while handling products in the freezer.
