Phlebotomy Training Coordinator

Responsibilities
- Promote and train consistent phlebotomy skills by meeting with employees, writing improvement plans, and following up with those employees.
- Maintain section materials to ensure adequate supplies by taking inventory and placing orders as assigned.
- Perform maintenance and function checks of various equipment (i.e. centrifuges, freezers, refrigerators) and notify the team leader of variations to assure the equipment is operating within acceptable limits by following policies and procedures.
- Process patient specimens appropriately and in a safe manner to ensure accurate and timely test results by following policies and procedures.
- Promote and maintain communication within the laboratory and clinic, as well as with hospital personnel, couriers, and clients to facilitate excellent laboratory services.
- Prioritize and organize work to facilitate the timely and accurate completion of multiple tasks simultaneously by assessing the urgency of the tasks and the time required to complete them.
- Participate as a team member to facilitate the efficiency and effectiveness of the section by utilizing interpersonal skills in communication, cooperation, and assisting coworkers in all areas.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or General Educational Development (G.E.D.) required.
- Minimum of 2 years phlebotomy experience required. Experience with patient venipuncture of all ages preferred. Experience with laboratory specimen processing and/or laboratory supply/equipment maintenance preferred.
- Certification as a Phlebotomy Technician (PBT) from the American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or equivalent professional organization required within 6 months of hire.
Skills
- Knowledge of phlebotomy practices and venipuncture specimen and safety procedures.
- Knowledge of laboratory processes, inventory, and equipment.
- Skill in phlebotomy procedures for all ages, and for all degrees of difficulty.
- Ability to coordinate laboratory training functions for clinical personnel.
- Ability to maintain patient confidentiality.
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing including one-to-one training activities.
- Participates in mandatory in-services.
