How You'll Impact Patient Care

• Accurately and timely collect blood specimens, according to departmental practices.
• Accurately identify and deliver patient samples to appropriate lab sections.
• Follow proper safety and identification procedures when dealing with patients and/or specimens under any circumstance or environment.
• Improve work skills through self-study and continuing education.
• Contribute to the smooth and efficient operation of the section and department.
• Protect self, coworkers and facility by following approval policies and procedures to prevent the spread of blood borne and/or airborne diseases.
• Exhibit and promote the professional image of laboratories in accordance with hospital, department, and professional society philosophies, goals and standards of laboratory testing.
• Provide age-appropriate specimen collection in accordance with age specific guidelines for school age, adolescents, early adults, middle adults and/or late adults.
• Adhere to the general Medical Center standards to promote a cooperative work environment by utilizing communication skills, interpersonal relationships and team building.

What You Will Need

• High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
• CPR Certification required.
• ASCP, AMT, ASPT or equivalent certification from an accredited Phlebotomy training program that includes successful completion of a certification exam with passing scores.

Nice to Have (Not Required)

• Two-year age-appropriate phlebotomy experience preferred.

Job Summary

Collects blood specimens for the clinical laboratories. Functions as an intermediary between the patient, patient caregivers, and the laboratories. Assures proper specimen collection and identification in compliance with section policies and procedures. Performs appropriate patient procedures in accordance with age-specific guidelines for the age groups served.
