Lab - Phlebotomist PRN Variable Shifts
Job Duties
- Identify patients and their personal information by reviewing their identity documents
- Assess patient needs, reviewing patient history and determining the reason(s) for the blood draw
- Select gauge needles and prepare veins or fingers for blood draw
- Extract blood from patients through venipuncture or fingersticks
- Analyze blood specimens using the correct testing equipment, when necessary
- Prepare specimens for transportation, including labeling vials accurately and matching blood specimens to patients
- Supply diagnostic notes to physicians or other healthcare professionals, as necessary
- Clean, maintain and calibrate lab equipment used in the drawing of blood specimens
- Order laboratory supplies, as needed

- Proven experience as a Phlebotomist
- Understanding of proper patient identification methods
- Knowledge of legal and regulatory requirements pertaining to drawing blood, handling specimen samples and use of relevant medical equipment
- Experience using effective puncture techniques
- Knowledge of testing protocols and use of testing equipment
- Superb dexterity and hand-eye coordination
- Keen attention to detail
- Strong verbal and written communication skills; and excellent interpersonal skills
- Computer skills including MS Office, Outlook, Meditech, preferred
Qualifications
- Diploma in Phlebotomy
- Certification with the American Society of Phlebotomy Technicians and/or the National Phlebotomy Association
- BLS, required
