Phlebotomy Technician - Full Time - Days

About the role

The phlebotomy technician collects specimens from patients, ensuring safety, comfort, and proper identification. They accession samples into computer systems, perform Point of Care testing if assigned, and process specimens including labeling, sorting, and storing. The role involves maintaining a clean work area, monitoring supplies, and supporting department goals. Communication with patients, accurate documentation, and coordination with healthcare teams are essential.

Clerical duties include test ordering, billing, data entry, instructing new staff, and supporting quality initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Collect specimens from patients while ensuring safety, comfort, and proper identification
  • Accession samples into computer systems
  • Perform Point of Care testing if assigned
  • Process specimens, including labeling, sorting, and storing
  • Maintain a clean work area and monitor supplies
  • Communicate effectively with patients and healthcare teams
  • Perform accurate documentation and clerical duties (test ordering, billing, data entry)
  • Instruct new staff and support quality initiatives

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Three months of phlebotomy training or relevant experience
  • Proficiency in specimen collection techniques and computer skills
  • Effective communication abilities
  • Knowledge of phlebotomy equipment, safety procedures, and specimen processing protocols
  • Ability to complete required training and competencies
  • Commitment to continuing education and adherence to safety standards

Additional Details

This is a non-management position reporting to a supervisor.
