Phlebotomy Technician 1-Crestwood Medical Center-FT-3rd shift

Responsibilities

• Performs venipunctures, heelsticks, and fingersticks to obtain blood samples for testing purposes.
• Properly identifies patients and follows procedures for collection of specimens.
• Processes and receives specimens into the laboratory, following laboratory protocol for specimen acceptability and rejection.
• Enters outpatient orders into Laboratory Information System.
• Collects chain of custody drug screens for pre-employment, post-accident, and just cause cases according to protocol.
• Assists with frozen sections and clerical duties as needed.
• Performs other related functions as assigned.

Qualifications

• Education: High school diploma or GED; completion of a formal training course in phlebotomy procedures from an accredited school or training program preferred.
• Experience: One year phlebotomy experience including obtaining specimens from neonate, pediatric, adult, and geriatric patients preferred.
• Skills: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills required; moderate knowledge of medical terminology.
• Licenses/Certificates: Current BLS certification upon hire or completed within 30 days of hire.
