Phlebotomy Lead

About the Role

The Phlebotomy Lead oversees and coordinates phlebotomy services, ensuring efficient operations, accurate blood specimen collection, and timely delivery of results. This role develops standard operating procedures, trains and mentors staff, and maintains high-quality patient care by managing phlebotomy staff, implementing best practices, and fostering excellence in phlebotomy services.

Responsibilities

• Coordinates and schedules blood drawing services, ensuring appropriate staffing and efficient workflow for a smooth patient experience.
• Trains and mentors phlebotomy staff to adhere to best practices and regulatory guidelines, promoting quality, accuracy, and patient safety.
• Develops and maintains standard operating procedures (SOPs) for phlebotomy processes to ensure consistency and reliable patient care.
• Implements and oversees quality improvement initiatives, analyzing performance metrics, identifying areas for improvement, and implementing corrective actions.
• Monitors and maintains inventory of phlebotomy supplies, ensuring availability and proper storage for uninterrupted services.
• Collaborates with laboratory personnel and healthcare professionals to resolve issues, improve processes, and enhance phlebotomy service quality.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• 2 years of clinical experience in a high-complexity laboratory.

Licensure/Certification

• BLS (CPR) from American Red Cross or AHA Healthcare Provider.
• Current Phlebotomy certification from one of the following:
  • ASCP (American Society for Clinical Pathology)
  • ASPT (American Society of Phlebotomy Technicians)
  • NHA (National Healthcareer Association)
• Alternatively, certification as a Clinical Laboratory Assistant or Medical Laboratory Assistant by ASCP or AMT is acceptable.
• Current Licensed Advanced EMT/Paramedic.
• Certified MT/MLT (ASCP, AMT).
