Phlebotomist Representative I - Hospital

Responsibilities

  • Perform venipuncture and capillary blood collection on patients of all age groups.
  • Accurately label and process specimens according to laboratory protocol.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of phlebotomy carts and work areas.
  • Administer oral solutions according to established training, such as Glucola.
  • Data entry and processing specimens including labeling, centrifuging, splitting, and freezing specimens as required by test order.
  • Perform departmental-related clerical duties when assigned such as data entry, inventory, stock supplies, and answering phones when needed.
  • Read, understand and comply with departmental policies, protocols and procedures.
  • Observe infection control and safety protocols at all times.
  • Maintain all appropriate phlebotomy logs in a timely manner and based on frequency.
  • Complete training courses and keep up to date with the latest phlebotomy techniques.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, nursing staff, and lab personnel.
  • Participate in special projects and teams.
  • Rotate through inpatient, outpatient, physicians’ offices, and ED settings as scheduled.
  • Assist with training new staff or students as needed.
  • Stay up to date on company communications.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrate proficient phlebotomy skills to include pediatric, geriatric, and capillary collections.
  • Flexible and available based on staffing needs, which includes weekends, holidays, on-call and overtime.
  • Must have reliable transportation, valid driver's license, and clean driving record, if applicable.
  • One year of phlebotomy experience preferred.
  • Customer service and healthcare experience preferred.
  • Keyboard/data entry experience.

Physical And Mental Requirements

  • Lift light to moderately heavy objects.
  • Sit, stand, and walk for long periods of time.
  • Use stairs and/or elevators to move between floors as required by the job.
  • Perform repetitive tasks with dominant hand frequently to constantly throughout the day.

The Phlebotomist I represents the face of our company to patients within the hospital systems at Quest Diagnostics, both as part of their routine health management or for insights into life-defining health decisions. The Phlebotomist I has direct contact with patients and creates an atmosphere of trust and confidence while explaining procedures to patients and drawing blood specimens in a skillful, safe and accurate manner.

Pay

Shift differential of 10% for some or all hours worked on second shift and 15% for some or all hours worked on third shift. Additional details on shift differential will be provided if an offer is extended.

Schedule

Position may require travel. Extensive use of phone and PC. Fine dexterity with hands/steadiness. Positional Coordination (balancing, bending/kneeling, pushing/pulling, reaching/twisting).
