About the role
The Lab Coordinator / Phlebotomist manages all aspects of patient lab draws, supports nursing staff by maintaining the lab, and oversees required lab draws for patients. They prepare all lab draws for third-party processing.
Responsibilities
- Certified in phlebotomy and completes patient lab draws as needed.
- Oversees daily laboratory operations, ensuring compliance with safety regulations and quality standards, including stat lab times and consistency.
- Responsible for the collection, processing, and distribution of all required lab draws to appropriate labs for processing.
- Manages staff functions related to lab procedures, training, and scheduling.
- Provides input on staff evaluations regarding phlebotomy duties.
- Implements and maintains quality control and assurance programs to meet internal and external requirements and improve laboratory efficiency.
- Maintains lab equipment and supplies monthly within budgetary guidelines.
- Troubleshoots and resolves technical issues in laboratory processes and equipment to ensure seamless operations.
- Trains new providers on lab processes and procedures.
- Reviews and approves laboratory reports and documentation for accuracy, completeness, and regulatory compliance.
- Uploads and enters all lab samples from non-WellSky third parties.
- Orders all lab supplies and maintains dated items in compliance with TJC Standards.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Certification in Phlebotomy preferred.

- Utilizes age, disability, and cultural-specific knowledge to communicate effectively with specialized populations.
- Good physical and mental health, demonstrating empathy, respect, and integrity.
- Ability to work under close supervision.
- Must successfully complete BLS certification and an Oceans-approved behavioral de-escalation program.
Work Environment
- Subject to frequent interruptions and occasional pressure due to multiple calls and inquiries.
- High-paced and potentially stressful environment; must cope mentally and physically with the atmosphere.
- Spends approximately 90% or more of the time working indoors.
