About the role
The Phlebotomist/Medical Laboratory Assistant (MLA) performs tasks related to specimen procurement, processing, distribution, and results. They also perform phlebotomy and capillary puncture procedures on patients ranging from neonates through adults.
Responsibilities
- Performs phlebotomy and capillary puncture procedures on patients ranging from neonates through adults.
- Processes and distributes specimens as required.
- Ensures accuracy and completeness of patient information.
- Collaborates with healthcare professionals to ensure proper specimen collection and handling.
Requirements
- High school education or equivalent.
- Official HS Diploma and/or undergrad/grad transcript required for regulatory compliance.
- One year of phlebotomy experience preferred.
- One year of lab and hospital experience highly recommended.
- Basic knowledge of phlebotomy, reagents, equipment, and equipment maintenance preferred.
- Ability to perform certain identified routine procedures at an acceptable level.
- Analytical ability to organize work, determine specimen requirements, and correctly identify patients.
- Interpersonal skills to explain phlebotomy procedures to patients.
- Ability to concentrate and pay close attention to detail when drawing and handling patient specimens.
