About the Role
Performs all specimen collection by phlebotomy from the correct individual at in-house or off-site locations. Obtains other specimens when indicated and instructs patients in specimen collection as necessary. May enter pathology specimens into computerized information systems and prepare and stain cytology specimens. Works across laboratory areas under supervision, with appropriate knowledge and training to function as needed.
Responsibilities
- Performs proper specimen collection (blood and non-blood), including patient preparation, labeling, handling, preservation or fixation, processing, transportation, and storage; complies with all laboratory procedure standards.
- Collects, verifies, and processes patient registration data and test orders into hospital/laboratory information systems, including ABN compliance.
- Processes specimens according to established guidelines.
- Maintains a safe and clean working environment by adhering to infection-control, hazardous waste, and other policies and protocols.
- Performs waived tests and assists in other testing platforms with technical oversight.
- Assists in quality control and performance improvement activities.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent (required).
- Certified as a phlebotomy technician (preferred).
- Previous experience drawing blood or completion of a phlebotomy training course in an approved program (preferred).
- Previous experience in a clinical laboratory environment (preferred).
Schedule
Full-time, 80 hours per pay period.
- Daily work times: 0500–1330.
- Weekends: Yes.
- On-call: No.
