About the Role
Performs all specimen collection by phlebotomy from the correct individual at in-house or off-site locations. Obtains other specimens when indicated and instructs patients in specimen collection as necessary. May enter pathology specimens into computerized information systems and prepare/stain cytology specimens. Works across all laboratory areas under supervision, with appropriate knowledge and training to function as needed.
Responsibilities
- Performs proper specimen collection (blood and non-blood), including patient preparation, labeling, handling, preservation, processing, transportation, and storage, complying with all laboratory procedure standards.
- Collects, verifies, and processes patient registration data and test orders into hospital/laboratory information systems, including ABN compliance.
- Processes specimens according to established guidelines.
- Maintains a safe and clean working environment by adhering to infection-control, hazardous waste, and other policies/protocols.
- Performs waived tests and assists in other testing platforms with technical oversight.
- Assists in quality control and performance improvement activities.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent (required).
Qualifications
- Certified as a phlebotomy technician (preferred).
- Previous experience drawing blood or completion of a phlebotomy training course in an approved program (preferred).
- Previous experience in a clinical laboratory environment (preferred).
Schedule
Full-time, 80 hours per pay period.
- Daily work times: 0500–1330.
- Weekends: Yes.
- On-call: No.
