Phlebotomist - Full Time Float
About the role
The Phlebotomist is responsible for various tasks including receiving patients, gathering registration information, ordering tests, generating specimen labels, escorting patients to phlebotomy services, performing phlebotomy, and handling clerical duties.
Responsibilities
- Obtain blood specimens by capillary or venipuncture technique using appropriate techniques from patients of any age or population.
- Follow proper procedures for special collections.
- Demonstrate commitment to patient and departmental needs and goals through flexibility in scheduling and teamwork.
- Coordinate distribution of confidential test result reports to physician offices, patient floors, specimen collection sites, and outside agencies.
- Maintain and rotate inventory/stock items.
- Perform necessary and required maintenance and daily quality control.
- Participate in weekend, holiday, and on-call assignments.
- Maintain complete confidentiality.
- Comply with OSHA regulations.
- Maintain established hospital and departmental policies and procedures, objectives, confidentiality, quality improvement program, compliance, safety, infection control, and environmental standards.
- Maintain professional growth and development through attendance at seminars, workshops, conferences, or in-services, professional affiliations, or journals to stay abreast of current trends in the field of expertise.
- Meet annual competency and retraining requirements.
- Attend meetings as required.
- Perform other functions/duties as requested.
Requirements
Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent required. Phlebotomy certificate preferred. Clerical experience including medical terminology, preferably in a laboratory setting, is required.
Experience: Six (6) months direct phlebotomy experience or completion of a 40-hour clinical rotation, preferably at Cooley Dickinson Health Care (CDHC), is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Demonstrated interpersonal, organizational, and telephone skills are required. Demonstrated ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, take initiative, make independent decisions, and maintain organized working conditions (even in stressful situations) is required. Must be competent in phlebotomy skills/competency checklist by end of introductory period or position will be forfeited. Reliable transportation for assignments outside of the hospital is required.

Pay
$18.81 - $26.15/Hourly
Schedule
40 hours per week, every third Saturday and sixth Sunday. Alternating weekends and holidays.
