About the role
The Facility Phlebotomist is responsible for the performance of routine work related to screening, collection of and hematology of blood and blood products. Frequent contact with the donor public occurs requiring a high level of customer service. This role is great for those who enjoy working with a diverse group of people in a variety of settings.
Responsibilities
- Aids in preparing the facility prior to opening to receive donors by stocking supplies and equipment and performing quality control checks as assigned.
- Performs pre-donation screening, venipuncture, and post-venipuncture care of donors in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures.
- Accurately and legibly completes donor records in a timely manner.
- Identifies and addresses non-routine situation arising during phlebotomy procedures and reports them to supervisor.
- Attends and completes continuing education and training in phlebotomy procedures, instruments and equipment as required.
- Maintains acceptable level of proficiency in required phlebotomy procedures.
- Affords assistance to other staff members in maintaining smooth workflow and processes.
- Actively recruits all donors.
- Accurately assess donor eligibility and select optimal collection procedure.
- Affords assistance in archiving donor records.
- Completes additional duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED, and six months of phlebotomy experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience (associate degree from an accredited college or university is a plus).
- Certificate of Phlebotomy strongly preferred.
- EMT Certification or Licenses in a related field a plus.
- Satisfactory and role-model technical and behavioral performance.
