Job Responsibilities
Phlebotomists are responsible for collecting blood specimens and interacting with patients from all age groups, with a broad range in degree of difficulty. Working jointly with all departments in the hospital and laboratory, phlebotomists are responsible for providing efficient and timely collections for patients in order to provide excellent care.
- Primarily responsible for the collection of blood specimens for the clinical laboratory.
- Computer test order entry in our outpatient settings, specimen collection data entry and assisting caregivers with patient reports.
- Preparing a laboratory for inspection by regulatory agencies.
- Maintaining, ordering and stocking laboratory supplies.
- Providing customer service to answer questions from patient providers regarding patient results or sample collection techniques or questions.
Job Qualifications
- A high school diploma or equivalent.
- Completion of a phlebotomy training program and must have a current license.
- Phlebotomy certification is required.
- Computer experience and some knowledge of medical terminology is preferred.
Position Specific Information
- PRN position, therefore, hours will vary.
- Includes rotation in the weekend/holiday schedule, as well as rotation in the Phlebotomy weekend on-call schedule.
