Phlebotomist
Job Summary And Qualifications
The Phlebotomist performs blood draws on patients who need diagnostic testing. The Phlebotomist is supervised by and works with the RNs to achieve timely pre-procedure blood draws and testing.
- Demonstrate knowledge of physiology and function of the venous system of the human body, and collection techniques used to draw blood from patients.
- Collect blood samples from patients per laboratory policy and procedure.
- Decide the best method for drawing blood depending on the specific patient.
- Patient identification.
- Label blood vials according to established procedures including use of automated patient identification systems.
Qualifications
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Completion of a certified phlebotomy course (strongly preferred)
- Demonstrated phlebotomy experience
- Interpersonal skills to successfully interact with all co-workers, staff, patients, patient families and vendors
- Good phlebotomy, computer, and communication skills
