Phlebotomist

About the role
As a Phlebotomist, you will utilize phlebotomy skills for the collection of patient samples. You will identify cultural differences and incorporate them into care, utilize translation services when indicated, and fulfill departmental responsibilities aligned with the hospital’s long-range plan, mission, vision, and values. You will also participate in performance improvement activities to assure continuous quality improvement and promote a supportive, collegial environment.
Responsibilities
- Performs venous and capillary collection procedures.
- Monitors computer/labels/computer reports to ensure no collections are missed.
- Collects all pertinent insurance information.
- Answers questions/phone calls regarding patient lab results.
- Separates and distributes reports throughout the hospital.
- Pulls collection pending list and reconciles collection schedules.
- Accurately and timely orders patient tests into the lab information system.
- Cleans glassware following pertinent policies.
- Monitors and documents temperatures in refrigerators/freezers and incubators/water baths.
- Provides clerical support for the lab.
- Orients and mentors staff.
- Follows Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
Requirements
- On-the-job training or previous experience.
- Ability to collect samples from every age group with skill.
- Ability to perform work that requires prolonged, extensive, or considerable standing/walking.
- Current BLS certification (new hires have 90 days to obtain).
