Overview
The Willamette Valley Cancer Institute and Research Center is seeking a Phlebotomist to join their laboratory team in Eugene, OR. WVCI provides comprehensive in-house services, including laboratory specimen collection and testing.
Responsibilities
- Collects blood and other specimens, focusing on venipuncture, while ensuring a positive patient experience.
- Maintains proper documentation as per the quality assurance program, including accessioning logs, equipment records, and checklists.
- Ensures adequate inventory of supplies and maintains their viability before use.
- Sends specimens to reference laboratories for testing not conducted in-house.
- Processes incoming orders for lab testing and in-house/incoming reports.
- Updates and files daily paperwork, lab logs, and maintenance logs.
- Operates and uses designated laboratory equipment as directed, maintaining it and the work area.
- Performs waived lab testing under CLIA guidelines for personnel, recording proper lot numbers of controls, calibrators, and reagents.
- Maintains confidentiality of patient and medical staff information.
- Complies with regulatory agency standards, adhering to OSHA compliance laws and Universal Precaution procedures.
- Disposes of hazardous materials properly.
- Maintains a clean working environment and restocks the phlebotomy and laboratory area as needed.
Qualifications
- No prior experience required.
- A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
- Licensure from an accredited school of phlebotomy is recommended.
- Current state licensure may be required.
Physical Demands
- Full range of body motion including manual and finger dexterity.
- Standing for extended periods.
- Occasional lifting and carrying up to 40 lbs.
- Requires corrected vision, color perception, and hearing to normal range.
- Requires legible handwriting.
Work Environment
- Direct contact with patients potentially exposing to blood/body fluids, chemotherapeutic agents, or transmittable infections.
- Handling corrosive chemicals, infectious agents, glassware, and needles.
