About the role
The Phlebotomist performs waived testing and corresponding controls for which they have received required training. This position also assists with supply inventory and records.
Responsibilities
- Performs venipuncture on adults and pediatrics
- Performs capillary (finger, toe, heel) blood collection on adults and pediatrics
- Processes specimens according to test specifications
- Records workload and test results according to established lab protocols
- Processes pap smear results and maintains the tickler file for follow-up
- Performs waived and approved testing using appropriate equipment and materials
- Performs and appropriately documents quality control procedures, instrument checks, and maintenance reports
- Consults with supervisor when controls are out of range, test results are abnormal, or when difficulties are encountered in testing procedure
- Maintains good working relationships with other employees and observes patient confidentiality
- Protects the confidentiality of patients and their records at all times by complying with the COFMC policies regarding patient confidentiality
- Performs other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
- High school graduate or equivalent
- Training appropriate for the tests being administered
