About the role
As a phlebotomist at Spartanburg Regional Hospital for Restorative Care, you will work with patients of all ages and provide a variety of tasks as assigned, playing a vital role in delivering high-quality healthcare to the community. No two days are ever the same in our energetic Phlebotomy Lab.
Responsibilities
- Perform venipuncture and collect other specimens for laboratory testing.
- Label specimen containers accurately and deliver to the proper destination in a timely manner.
- Perform order entry duties as required.
- Procure and distribute specimens (blood, urine, etc.) and operate computer equipment.
- Provide and understand the specific communication and collection needs of patients ranging in age from neonate to geriatric.
- Process and receive specimens for the technical staff and prepare send-out specimens for reference testing.
- Answer incoming calls for the laboratory.
- Monitor phlebotomy supply inventory and rotate supplies as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Successful completion of an accredited Phlebotomy Program.
- Ability to draw an average of 7 patients per hour within the first 90 days of employment.
- Proficiency in the use of Laboratory Information System within the first 90 days of employment.
- Must be ASCP eligible.
- Must be able to read, write, and speak English fluently.
- Must maintain strict confidentiality of work-related information.
- Must be able to work irregular/flexible hours.
- Must have dependable transportation, including in inclement weather.
- Must be able to withstand the stress and demands of an active position.
- Must be able to withstand constant standing, walking, stooping, and bending.
- Must be able to respond calmly and efficiently in crisis situations.
- Must be able to work as a team member and interact positively with others.
- Must be able to work at optimum speed with accuracy and efficiency.
- Must be able to take directions and respond quickly and efficiently.
- Moderate lifting up to 50 pounds may be required.
- Position includes moderate chemical exposure.
- Sensitive touch for locating veins, manual dexterity, and coordination required for drawing blood.
- Must be able to pass a color vision test.
- Hearing must be within normal range for daily work.
