Phlebotomist
Job Summary
Under the supervision of the Section Manager and/or LST Coordinator, performs phlebotomy procedures and transports laboratory specimens. Draws blood from patients for analysis or other medical purposes. Assembles equipment, such as tourniquet, needles, disposable containers for needles, blood collection tubes, gauze, cotton, and alcohol on work tray according to requirements for specified tests. Verifies and records patient identity and converses with patient to explain procedures and allay fear of procedure. Assists with clerical duties including data entry and report distribution.
Demonstrates professional work habits and positive interpersonal skills. Must be able to follow prescribed procedures for patient safety and satisfaction including following guidelines set by Research Medical Center and Joint Commission.
Qualifications
- High School Graduate / GED required
- Phlebotomy certification by ASCP and/or NCA required
- At Least 2 years Phlebotomy experience highly desired
- Phlebotomy experience in a large hospital laboratory highly desired
- Attention to detail and ability to work with a low error rate
- Able to verbally communicate effectively
- Must be able to maintain 32 collections in 8 hours
Work Schedule
Full Time Evenings - 5 evenings per week. 8 hour shifts. 12p.m. to 10:30 p.m. with Rotating Weekends
