About the Role
The phlebotomist performs venipuncture, capillary puncture, and bedside testing, ensuring accurate patient identification and proper specimen labeling. Responsibilities include effective communication with patients, doctors, and hospital staff.
Responsibilities
- Perform venipuncture and capillary puncture procedures
- Conduct bedside testing
- Ensure accurate patient identification and proper labeling of specimens
- Communicate effectively with patients, doctors, and hospital staff
Requirements
- High school graduate or equivalent (preferred)
- Completion of a phlebotomy training course or on-the-job training with at least one year of phlebotomy experience in a CAP-certified hospital laboratory
- CPR certification (required)
- PBT (ASCP), CPT (ASCP), or equivalent certification (preferred)
Qualifications
Must have a thorough understanding of clinical laboratory procedures.
Physical Demands and Working Conditions
- Ability to lift and move boxes of supplies weighing up to 30 pounds
- Extended periods of standing, walking, and stair use
- Exposure to bio-hazardous materials, chemicals, and potential infectious diseases
