About the role
This is a full-time, on-site opportunity based in Bethesda, MD. Schedule is Monday through Friday 6:30 AM to 3:00 PM.
Responsibilities
- Functions as a Health Technician (Phlebotomist) in an active clinic where samples are drawn for both clinical testing and for research protocols.
- Collaborates with doctors, head nurses, and other nursing staff on a daily basis.
- Draws blood specimens from outpatients in the Clinic and inpatients on all nursing units according to standard operation procedures.
- Collects finger sticks and other micro-volume samples that require specialized equipment and skillful techniques which may be different from routine sample processing.
- Processes specimens by centrifuging, separating, measuring volume, and aliquoting according to standard operation procedures.
- Follows all safety guidelines for the disposal of sharps as well as adheres to all patient isolation procedures.
- Identifies problems regarding specimens or orders to patient care providers, e.g. specimens that arrive unlabeled, mislabeled, insufficient quantity for tests requested, or collected in wrong tube; and contacts the nursing units or physician directly for specimens that are rejected in order to direct the patient care physician to recollect the specimen as needed.
- Instructs patients on procedures for proper collection of midstream, clean-catch urine specimens to prevent contamination of normal flora.
- Participates in continuing education as needed to maintain competency in all job duties.
- Participates in improvement projects for quality assurance such as review and collection of data to determine phlebotomy draws compared to nurse draws and number of errors.
- Trains ancillary groups such as medical students that may be involved in drawing research specimens.
- Collects data to track wait time for patients in Outpatient Clinic from time of sign-in until blood is drawn and suggests improvements to shorten time.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High school diploma and certification as a Phlebotomist (ASCP) or similar.
- Minimum of ONE (1) year of experience performing venipuncture and urine collection procedures.
- Experience with specimen processing required.
- Strong communications skills, both oral and written.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Strong computer skills.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Federal or DoD "public trust"; candidates must obtain approved adjudication of their public trust prior to onboarding with Guidehouse.

Benefits
The annual salary range for this position is $49,000.00-$81,000.00. Compensation decisions depend on a wide range of factors, including but not limited to skill sets, experience and training, security clearances, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs.
