Job Summary

As our Phlebotomist, you will help patients and co-workers perform blood collection and specimen processing, assisting with clerical duties as requested to maintain laboratory collection turnaround time and ensure accurate specimen processing.

Responsibilities

  • Practice positive patient identification and follow blood collection procedures.
  • Perform venous and capillary punctures on all age groups, utilizing appropriate collection techniques to obtain quality samples.
  • Prioritize work activities to assure efficiency and turnaround time requirements are met.
  • Execute precise blood collections with a patient-first approach, ensuring comfort and accuracy.
  • Accelerate critical laboratory turnaround times through expert specimen processing.
  • Efficiently handle essential clerical duties in a fast-paced environment.
  • Thrive in a fast-paced environment where your precision and efficiency directly contribute to saving lives and advancing medical understanding.
  • Practice positive patient identification at all times, in all job functions.
  • Practice HumanKindness and courtesy with all patient and co-worker interactions.
  • Establish and maintain good communication within the department and with other hospital departments.
  • Comply with isolation and hand sanitization procedures.
  • Follow blood collection procedures, perform venous and capillary punctures on all age groups of inpatient and outpatient populations.
  • Utilize appropriate collection techniques to obtain quality samples and adhere to appropriate volume requirements.
  • Perform Blood Bank collections.
  • Follow written collection and Blood Bank banding procedures.
  • Demonstrate accuracy and good penmanship.
  • Adhere to specimen requirements.
  • Maintain order and cleanliness of phlebotomy trays, stations and storage rooms.

Requirements

  • Required: High School diploma or GED
  • Excellent customer service and time management skills
  • American Heart Association BLS Provider certification within 90 days
  • PREFERRED: Phlebotomy certificate
  • Three (3) months of phlebotomy in an acute care facility
