Responsibilities

  • Perform efficient and effective plasma collection from donors through venipuncture, monitor the pheresis process, and follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Execute all aspects of the pheresis procedure and plasma collection, including donor set-up, monitoring, and disconnect, in compliance with SOPs.
  • Perform venipuncture on donors in compliance with SOPs and FDA guidelines to initiate the pheresis process.
  • Evaluate donor vein performance to identify potential issues, make necessary corrections to expedite donation time, and ensure product quality and donor safety.
  • Ensure the donation process is efficient and adjust as needed to provide a positive donor experience.
  • Educate new donors on therapeutic products made from donated plasma, the screening process, health tests performed, appointment system, donation fees, center policies, proper nutrition, and other pertinent information.
  • Answer all donor questions timely, accurately, and professionally.
  • Maintain alertness to donor reactions and assist or notify appropriate staff as needed.
  • Use a Personal Digital Assistant (PDA) to record incidents during the pheresis process, such as machine alerts, alarms, volume variances, and donor adverse events.
  • Perform calibrations and verify maintenance as outlined in SOPs.
  • Respond to and resolve complex equipment alarms or donor issues, troubleshoot equipment failures, and document incidents.
  • Remove and/or replace equipment from service as needed.
  • Monitor donor flow on the donor floor to ensure continuous turnover and alert the Group Leader or Supervisor of any issues.
  • Collect arm samples or whole blood samples from donors for testing.
  • Ensure accurate recording of donor data in the electronic donor information management system as outlined in SOPs.
  • Understand policies and procedures associated with hyper-immune programs at the center, if applicable.
  • Maintain a clean and efficient work environment, ensuring sufficient operating supplies and forms are available.
  • Follow all Health Safety & Environmental (HSE) and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) policies and procedures.
  • Promote safety in all actions and maintain confidentiality of personnel, donor, and center information.
  • May be cross-trained in other areas to meet business needs.
  • Bilingual skills may be required at the organization’s discretion.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum twelve (12) months of experience in a medical or health care environment preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • For centers located in California: Persons performing automated plasmapheresis procedures must be at a minimum state certified as a Certified Phlebotomy Technician I, OR currently a Registered Nurse by the State of California.
  • Different qualifications or responsibilities may apply based on local legal and/or educational requirements.
