Responsibilities

  • Perform venipuncture, monitor the pheresis process, and follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for efficient and effective plasma collection.
  • Complete all aspects of the pheresis procedure, including donor set-up, monitoring, and disconnect.
  • Evaluate vein performance to identify possible problems and make corrections to expedite donation time while ensuring product quality and donor safety.
  • Make adjustments to the donation process as needed to ensure a positive donor experience.
  • Educate new donors on therapeutic products made from donated plasma, the screening process, health screening tests, appointment system, donation fees, center policies, nutrition, and other pertinent information.
  • Answer all donor questions timely, accurately, and professionally.
  • Maintain alertness to donor reactions, assist with reactions, or notify appropriate staff.
  • Use a Personal Digital Assistant (PDA) to record incidents during the pheresis process, including machine alerts, alarms, volume variances, and donor adverse events.
  • Perform calibrations and verify maintenance has been completed as outlined in SOPs.
  • Respond to and resolve complex equipment alarms or donor issues; troubleshoot equipment failures.
  • Create incident documentation and remove/replace equipment from service as needed.
  • Monitor donor flow on the floor to assure continuous turnover; alert Group Leader or Supervisor of flow issues.
  • Collect arm samples or whole blood samples from donors for testing.
  • Ensure accurate recording of donor data in the electronic donor information management system per SOPs.
  • Understand policies and procedures associated with hyper immune programs at the center if applicable.
  • Maintain a clean, efficient work environment and ensure sufficient operating supplies and forms are available.
  • Follow all Health Safety & Environmental (HSE) and OSHA policies and procedures; promote safety in all actions.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all personnel, donor, and center information.
  • May be cross-trained in other areas to meet business needs.
  • Bilingual skills may be required at the organization's discretion.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum twelve (12) months experience in a medical or health care environment preferred, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • For centers located in CA: Persons performing automated plasmapheresis procedures must be at minimum state certified as a Certified Phlebotomy Technician I, OR a Current Registered Nurse by the State of California.
