Phlebotomist

Responsibilities

• Performs phlebotomy and processing of specimens to be sent to outside labs.
• Primarily assist in the phlebotomy room to draw blood.
• Restock the phlebotomy area as needed.
• Transport patients' blood and gold slips to the main lab area in a timely manner to be processed and centrifuged.
• Pour off urine specimens to be sent to reference labs.
• Pack up specimens with requisitions to send out labs.
• Aid 6th-floor lab technician as needed for assistance and backup.
• Clean and restock laboratory facility.
• Aid lab technicians as needed.

Qualifications

• Must be able to perform essential and non-essential duties satisfactorily.
• The individual must be able to multitask and have strong attention to detail.
• Ability to interact effectively and in a supportive manner with persons of all backgrounds.
• Excellent telephone skills and etiquette.
• Ability to work well under pressure.
• High school diploma or GED.
• Previous experience in phlebotomy of at least one or more years is preferred.
• Medical terminology is required.
• Language Skills: Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions. Ability to effectively communicate with staff and clients.
• Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
• Computer Skills: Must have knowledge of Medical Software and Microsoft Office including Word and Excel. Strong PC skills and well-versed in using Internet applications.

Physical Demands

• Physical requirements include standing for extended periods of time, walking, bending, stooping, and lifting books and files of approximately 50 lbs. or less.
• Work may include extended periods of time viewing a computer video monitor and/or operating a keyboard.

Pay

USD $18.00 - USD $22.00 /Hr.
