Phlebotomist

Phlebotomists operate under the direct supervision of the Assistant Manager and Center Manager, and at times take instruction from the Physician Substitute on site. Responsibilities include ensuring donor suitability, product integrity, and donor health through compliance with FDA regulations, state regulations, and Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) Manual guidelines.

Schedule

  • Availability required Monday - Friday, and every other Saturday (3 on and 4 off).
  • Paid training (Monday - Friday).

Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate instruments used for donor qualification and donation.
  • Maintain instruments used for donor qualification and donation.
  • Prepare site and perform phlebotomy.
  • Document operational and maintenance activities.
  • Assess supply inventory; order and restock as needed.
  • Attend to donor’s needs, including managing donor reactions.
  • Promote customer satisfaction through appropriate interaction and responsiveness.
  • Report unsafe situations or conditions to supervisor.
  • Available to travel up to 25 miles to other facilities for training or staffing assistance.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Previous experience or education in a health-related field helpful.
  • Phlebotomy certification preferred.

Skills

  • Operate computer equipment (basic skills include typing, following prompts, using a mouse, saving information).
  • Operate Nexsys PCS and other phlebotomy-related equipment accurately.

Physical Requirements

  • Read computer screens, procedure manuals, and other documents.
  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Ability to hear doorbells, alarms, telephones, and other mechanical devices.
  • Work confidently while being observed during frequent quality inspections.
  • Work in walk-in subzero freezer(s).
  • Lift, pull, or tug up to 50 pounds to stock supplies or support donors.
  • Regularly use hands and fingers to handle objects, tools, and controls; reach with hands and arms.
  • Vision abilities, including close vision.
  • Stand for extended intervals, walk, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, and crouch.
  • Operate equipment requiring repetitive motion and manual dexterity.
  • Read while standing or sitting in front of a computer for short periods.
  • Wear personal protective equipment (PPE) such as eyewear, lab coats, and gloves.
