About the Role

Apicha Community Health Center is seeking a Phlebotomist to perform venipunctures, finger sticks, and process medical laboratory tests while adhering to CLIA and COLA requirements. This role serves as a back-up for clinical team members and supports direct patient care, administration, equipment maintenance, and compliance.

Responsibilities

• Direct Patient Care:
  • Obtain blood specimens via venipuncture and finger sticks per laboratory orders.
  • Process and document medical laboratory test results for diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease.
  • Serve as a back-up for clinical team members by controlling patient flow, performing EKG tests, measuring blood pressure, documenting vital signs in the EMR, and administering injectables.
  • Communicate with and assist patients professionally and courteously.
• Administration:
  • Enter patient demographics, tests performed, and diagnoses in the EMR.
  • Complete lab requisition forms and produce labels for forms and specimen tubes.
  • Review the laboratory schedule, verify and complete orders, and confirm patient records.
  • Monitor and resolve orders in the electronic medical record.
• Maintenance of Clinic Equipment and Supplies:
  • Order and maintain adequate laboratory supplies.
  • Clean and maintain laboratory equipment.
• Compliance:
  • Maintain records and documentation for proficiency testing to meet COLA and CLIA requirements.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant Program; Associate degree preferred.
• One (1) year of full-time Medical Assistant work experience preferred.
• Current Basic Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (BLS CPR) certificate.
• Ability to work both independently and in a team.
• Experience working with people living with HIV/AIDS preferred.
• Ability to speak Spanish or one of the Asian languages is strongly preferred.
