About the Role
Responsible for phlebotomy, laboratory testing, quality control, instrument troubleshooting and maintenance.
Responsibilities
- Perform proper quality control procedures before proceeding with patient testing.
- Perform laboratory blood work and blood draws.
- Follow laboratory procedures for specimen handling and processing.
- Perform technical laboratory procedures in a timely manner with accuracy and precision, meeting the standards of all accrediting and regulatory agencies.
- Prepare blood or bone marrow slides for evaluation.
- Send outside labs to appropriate facility as dictated by patient’s insurance plan.
- Receive lab reports via the telephone, lab system, or fax and document in the patient’s chart or Onco/EMR for physician’s review.
- Show physician critical blood counts according to guidelines.
- Maintain adequate inventory of supplies and place orders with purchasing as needed.
- In the absence of the Lab QA Specialist, initiate troubleshooting procedures when instrument malfunction occurs and contact central lab or instrument service company if necessary.
- Perform therapeutic phlebotomy.
- Perform any and all duties required to keep laboratory in compliance with state and federal regulatory agencies, including compliance testing.
- Take the required number of CEUs annually to meet C.O.L.A. requirements.
- Observe established safety guidelines and maintain cleanliness of the laboratory and equipment.
- Comply with all Federal and State laws and regulations pertaining to patient care, patient’s rights, safety, billing, and collections.
- Adhere to all Company and departmental policies and procedures, including IT policies and procedures and Disaster Recovery Plan.
- Maintain and ensure the confidentiality of all patient information at all times.
- Assist in training new employees on related job duties.
- Work at any Company location to help meet the Company’s business needs.
- Work overtime when given sufficient notice of required overtime.
Qualifications
- Minimum of one year of phlebotomy experience is required.
- High school diploma or GED.
