About the role

This Phlebotomist role focuses on performing high-quality blood draws and specimen collection while providing clear, courteous communication to patients of all ages. You will collect, label, process, and store specimens according to established procedures, maintain accurate records, and ensure strict adherence to safety and regulatory standards. This position offers the opportunity to make a meaningful impact in the community and to grow professionally, including the chance to pursue a B.A. degree in Health Sciences.

Responsibilities

  • Perform blood draws and other specimen collections in a safe, accurate, and efficient manner, following established procedures.
  • Clearly and courteously explain venipuncture and other specimen collection processes to patients to ensure understanding and comfort.
  • Demonstrate proper techniques using straight needles and butterfly needles for patients across all age groups, including pediatric patients.
  • Collect and store specimens according to established procedures and test requirements.
  • Label specimens accurately, ensuring that all test information and labels are 100% correct before processing.
  • Centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by specific test orders.
  • Place specimens in appropriate collection containers and store them at the required temperatures.
  • Record maintenance data and decontamination activities accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Update patient information and maintain accurate documentation in accordance with facility protocols.
  • Interpret and follow physicians’ orders accurately when performing specimen collection and processing.
  • Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations related to safety, handling, and disposal of specimens and materials.
  • Provide professional and courteous customer service to patients, families, and healthcare staff.
  • Contribute to a positive and supportive environment focused on delivering quality healthcare to the community.

Essential Skills

  • Valid phlebotomy certification for the state of Nebraska.
  • 2+ years of experience working with pediatric patients, including performing blood draws on children.
  • Proficiency in phlebotomy and blood draw techniques, including the use of straight needles and butterfly needles.
  • Experience with specimen collection, labeling, centrifuging, splitting, freezing, and storage according to test orders.
  • Strong understanding of physicians’ orders and the ability to follow them accurately.
  • Knowledge of OSHA and DEP regulations and the ability to comply with safety and regulatory requirements.
  • Attention to detail to ensure all test information and labels are 100% correct.
  • Ability to update patient information and maintain accurate records.
  • Customer service skills to interact courteously and clearly with patients and healthcare staff.
  • Experience working in a healthcare or laboratory environment.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Interest in pursuing further education, with an opportunity to gain a B.A. degree in Health Sciences.
  • Experience working with patients across all demographics and age groups.
  • Strong communication skills to explain procedures clearly and reassure patients.
  • Able to work independently while following established procedures and protocols.

Work Environment

This role follows a Monday through Friday schedule from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., with a one-hour lunch break each day. You will work in a clinical or laboratory setting that involves regular blood draws, specimen handling, and use of equipment such as needles, centrifuges, and freezers. The environment emphasizes safety and regulatory compliance, including adherence to OSHA and DEP standards. Work attire consists of scrubs, with lab coats provided, supporting a professional and hygienic clinical atmosphere. The setting serves patients of all ages and demographics, offering the opportunity to contribute directly to community health and patient care.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Omaha, NE.

Pay And Benefits

The pay range for this position is $24.60 - $24.60/hr.
