About the Role

As a One Medical Phlebotomist/Administrative Assistant (internally known as Lab Services Specialist/Member Support Specialist) at one of our offices focused on our Senior Health member population (age 65+), you’ll provide an exceptional experience for our patients. You will perform venipuncture and other clinical support services, acting as an ambassador for patients with a mastery of human connection and a strong drive for service. You will remove barriers to care, ensuring a truly exceptional in-office patient experience, and steward the office space to align with the One Medical brand.

You will be the first point of contact for patients and provide support as requested by the Practice Coordinator, Operations Manager, or providers. You are a strong team player with innovative problem-solving skills, combining excellent specimen collection technique with tactful interpersonal skills during every patient interaction.

Responsibilities

  • Use impeccable C-I-CARE (a framework for effective communication) in all patient interactions, both clinical and administrative, ensuring a fluid and positive in-office experience through patient intake, same-day schedule management, follow-up scheduling, billing and insurance knowledge, monitoring patient feedback, and assisting with outreach.
  • Provide best-in-class venipuncture services for a population ranging from pediatrics to geriatrics, depending on the office location.
  • Perform and assist with extended scope duties such as non-blood specimen collection, EKGs/ECGs, vitals, ear lavages, vaccines, PPD tests, and swabs.
  • Maintain high standards of in-office care through proper specimen labeling, handling and processing, inventory upkeep, and tool sterilization.
  • Care for members beyond the lab room by answering patient messages, following up on lab cases, and assisting providers and the virtual medical team with clerical duties such as biometric screening forms, medical record and consult review, billing inquiries, and DOH reporting.
  • Handle front-of-house duties including check-in/check-out, insurance verification, printing/paperwork tasks, prepping tests, and tasking to service level expectations.
  • Contribute to team development through rounding, attending team huddles, participating in problem-solving, and supporting in-office providers with ad hoc tasks.
  • Perform opening and closing duties, daily office upkeep, maintaining the look and feel of patient and employee spaces, restocking supplies, and organization.
  • Master our technology suite, including Slack, G-suite, Zoom, Circulation, RingCentral, and our Electronic Medical Record System to interact with team members and complete daily work.

    • At least 6 months of relevant experience as a Medical Assistant or Phlebotomist outside of a training/externship environment.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in either venipuncture techniques (including site selection, needle insertion, and blood collection procedures) or vaccine administration and injection techniques (including proper needle handling, site preparation, and patient safety protocols).
  • Strong customer service skills, including the ability to establish and maintain effective customer relationships and deliver customer-centric solutions.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • A High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Proficiency in computer technology such as typing, navigating the internet, and using multiple software systems simultaneously.
  • Experience working on collaborative, diverse, multi-disciplinary teams (additional experience with remote teams a plus).
