Job Summary

The Phlebotomist is responsible for executing the plasmapheresis process by performing venipunctures. This role adheres to state and federal regulations, ensuring compliance with FDA approved Standard Operating Procedures, OSHA, CLIA, and GMP.

Ensuring Compliance

• Maintains total operation compliance with state and federal regulations
• Ensures facility compliance with all relevant standards

Customer Service and Donor Experience

• Maintains high level of customer service and positive donor experience
• Maintains cleanliness of work area to ensure a clean and professional environment

Equipment and Supplies

• Maintains and prepares all equipment and disposable supplies for venipuncture and plasmapheresis procedures
• Labels and ensures accurate labeling of each unit and sample

Procedure Execution

• Executes venipunctures and plasma collection with the highest standards of quality and safety
• Operates automated plasmapheresis machines, responding and evaluating machine alarms and alerts, donor adverse events, document exceptions, etc.
• Maintains proper ratio to ensure donor safety and product quality
• Disconnects donors and handles disposal of biohazardous waste and contaminated equipment, including cleaning spills and following safety protocols

Machine Maintenance and Documentation

• Maintains accurate and thorough documentation of necessary records, including Plasmapheresis Machine Logs
• Maintains/stocks adequate inventory and replenishes supplies on plasma carts

Training and Development

• Mentors junior Phlebotomists, driving training efficiencies and ensuring timeliness and compliance
• Trains as QA-Backup and/or NexSys Technician as required by business need

Quality Assurance and Collaboration

• Partners with Quality Assurance on overall Donor Floor performance
• Favorsable performance observations, CAPA implementations, and continuous improvement initiatives

Storage Room Organization and Tasks

• Maintains/stocks adequate inventory and replenishes supplies on plasma carts
• Organizes storage room, performing tasks following the FIFO method
• Oversees the flow of donors, organizing lunch schedules, breaks, and overall schedule adherence

Physical Requirements

• Sit or stand for extended periods
• Lift, pull up to thirty-five pounds
• Bend, stoop, or kneel
• Utilize all required PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) at all times
• Occasional exposure to and handling of dry ice
• Precise tasks requiring repetitive small motor skills, such as drawing blood for diagnostic tests
• Able to work in an environment with a temperature of -40C or colder for extended periods

• Able to use assistive devices if needed for mobility or communication
