About the role
The Marine Biologist will join a holistic, church-planting team in the Philippines to oversee a coral reef restoration project to reach Filipinos who want to preserve their way of life.
Responsibilities
- Lead and contribute to research efforts aimed at the preservation and restoration of coral reefs, turtles, and other marine ecosystems.
- Use the platform of Creation Care to build relationships and partnerships with local stakeholders, share your testimony, and start Bible studies.
- Conduct cutting-edge research and data collection on reef ecosystems, coral health, and turtle populations.
- Design and execute field surveys, experiments, and monitoring programs to assess the status and health of reef and turtle habitats.
- Analyze and interpret data using advanced statistical techniques and modeling approaches.
- Collaborate with local stakeholders, government agencies, and NGOs to develop and implement conservation strategies and management plans.
- Conduct assessments of coral reef resilience and vulnerability to climate change impacts.
- Help develop and implement educational outreach programs to raise awareness and promote sustainable practices for reef and turtle conservation.
- Publish research findings in peer-reviewed journals and present findings at scientific conferences.
- Mentor and supervise dive team members, providing guidance and volunteer divers.
Requirements
- Christian maturity: Exemplify Christ-like character and leadership competency
- In-depth knowledge of reef ecosystems, coral biology, and turtle conservation
- Experience in Grant Writing
- Strong research and data analysis skills
- Ability to lead and train a dive team to conduct species surveys and inventories
- Strong research background with a demonstrated track record of publication in reputable scientific journal(s)
- Expertise in marine fieldwork techniques, data collection, and statistical analysis
- Familiarity with coral reef assessment methods and restoration techniques
- Certified Scuba Diver
- Advance degree in Marine Biology (can be working towards doctorate degree)
- Experience with Field Work in remote coastal communities
- Active in Church/Ministries and has some cross-cultural experience
