Position Summary

The Philanthropy Director works closely with the Executive Director to develop a comprehensive fundraising strategy to expand philanthropic support for the organization. The Philanthropy Director is responsible for managing and implementing all components of the fundraising plan including: annual giving, planned giving, corporate and foundation grants, major individual and corporate gifts, special fundraising events and marketing and communications. Provide oversight of all staff members of the resource development team.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Coordinate the creation of the organization’s fundraising plan in conjunction with the Executive Director
  • Develop department annual plan (based upon organization’s fundraising plan), goals, performance outcomes, plans to achieve outcomes, and methods of measuring progress toward the outcomes
  • Research, cultivate and steward relationships with new and existing donors
  • Develop and present proposals to donors for funding
  • Engage in networking activities or other opportunities to generate potential prospects for cultivation
  • Cultivate and expand planned giving and estate giving opportunities with new and existing donors and integrate planned gift objectives into individual donor requests
  • Oversee, plan, and manage fundraising activities and events
  • Ensure services are delivered in an efficient and effective manner monitoring compliance with appropriate governance, including that in signed contracts
  • Coordinate with program team members to ensure and report on the organization’s fulfillment of funded objectives
  • Lead the development of PBC marketing materials, community, and public relations
  • Teach, train and mentor resource development staff to ensure timely and quality work is performed in alignment with organizational and departmental goals
  • Provide support, coaching, direction and annual performance reviews of all direct reports

Other Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and monitor the department budget
  • Project and analyze revenue and expenditures
  • Serve as a liaison for department or organization relations with other entities
  • Provide oversight for PBC’s social media pages and website
  • Evaluate and report the results of fund-raising campaigns
  • Plan and implement tours of Pearl Buck Center for new and existing donors
  • Solicit speaking engagements and make presentations and/or secure speakers for presentations
  • Ensure workflow and/or procedures are kept up-to-date for owned tasks
  • Maintain all safety protocols and techniques within the workplace
  • Acts responsive and engaged with developing a positive work environment which includes providing honest, respectful and direct feedback to other staff, participating in team meetings, team development, personal training plans, respecting diversity and differences among staff, clients and stakeholders
  • Completes other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in related field OR 4 years experience in a related field
  • Six years fund raising experience in nonprofit fundraising with at least four years of experience in major gifts fundraising
  • Four years of experience working in nonprofit communications
  • Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) preferred
  • Two years of supervision experience including recruiting, hiring and implementing progressive discipline
  • Excellent communicator both verbally and in writing
  • Excellent time management skills and the ability to prioritize work for self and others
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain confidential and sensitive information
  • Computer and keyboard proficiency with knowledge of DonorPerfect, Google Suite and MS Office
  • Ability to pass an Oregon Department of Human Services background check
  • Possession of a valid Oregon Driver’s License and insurability to drive company vehicles
  • Ability to relate to persons with various abilities and advocate for their needs

Salary Range

$60,000 - $73,000 per year

Available Benefits

  • Medical through Kaiser Permanente is available for Regular, Primary employees working 30+ hours a week. Base coverage for the employee is provided by Pearl Buck Center, buy-up options are available for employee purchase. Eligibility begins on the first day of the month following 30 days of employment for exempt employees.
  • Dental & Vision through Met Life is available for Regular, Primary employees working 30+ hours a week. Base coverage for the employee is provided by Pearl Buck Center, buy-up options are available for employee purchase. Eligibility begins on the first day of the month following 30 days of employment for exempt employees.
  • Voluntary Life Insurance, Short-term or Long-term disability, Flexible Spending Account are available for employee purchase.
  • Paid Time Off (PTO): Employees accrue PTO each pay period based on hours worked beginning at a rate of .0577/hr worked (annual equivalent of 15 days prorated). Umbrella PTO can be used for sick leave as well as vacation. Part time employees can accrue up to 160 hours of PTO, while full time employees can accrue up to 200 hours.
  • Paid Holidays: We have 10 paid holidays per year. Eligibility begins 30 days following date of hire.
  • 401(k) Retirement Plan: After 6 months of employment, employees are eligible to participate in the program during the next enrollment period. Pearl Buck Center is currently matching up to 3%.
  • Life Insurance and Accidental Death & Dismemberment: Each employee working more than 17.5 hours per week is eligible for $10,000 in coverage for themselves and $5,000 for a spouse and $2,000 for children at no cost to the employee.
  • Employee Assistance Program (EAP): This is a free service to all PBC employees through Cascade Health. The EAP includes family counseling, legal advice, financial direction, and mental health or substance abuse issues. All household members are eligible.
  • Tools & Reimbursements: Depending on the job, you may receive a cell phone, tablet, or laptop for business use. Mileage is reimbursed at the federal rate.
  • Wellness LSA Benefit: A wellness Lifestyle Spending Account (LSA) to cover a wide variety of wellness-related expenses, such as gym memberships, wellness programs, and fitness equipment is provided at no cost to the employee. Regular, Primary employees working 30+ hours a week will receive $20 per month reimbursed for eligible services. Regular, Part-time employees working 17.5+ hours a week will receive $10 per month reimbursed for eligible services.
  • Referral Bonus: If you refer someone for employment with us and they are hired, you get $100 once their background check clears! After 90 days, you will receive an additional $100 for providing PBC with a great referral!
  • All Staff Meetings: We conduct semi-yearly staff meetings to keep all employees aware of PBC news and activities.
  • Engagement Group: Our Engagement Group includes the Wellness & Activity Committee (WAC), and our Safety Committee. The goal of these groups is to come together to ensure that PBC is an enjoyable and safe place to work! Our WAC team seeks fun events for employees to participate in (often free or at a discounted price). Some of the events sponsored in the past included Trivia Night, Murder Mystery Dinner, Laser tag & Mini-golf, Nature Walk, Staff BBQ, and much more!
