About the role
The PhD project aims to develop technologies, methodologies, and assurance frameworks to enable humans and robotic systems to operate safely, efficiently, and collaboratively within a shared nuclear environment.
Responsibilities
- Develop novel technologies enabling safe human-robot collaboration
- Create new safety and assurance methodologies for nuclear robotics
- Support regulatory acceptance through established frameworks
- Demonstrate operational capabilities within representative nuclear environments
- Enhance workforce safety and reduce radiological exposure for operators
- Increase operational efficiency across various nuclear facilities
Requirements
- A first degree classified at 1st (or equivalent) in Robotics and AI or a closely related subject
- An MSc in robotics or a related area is highly desirable
Qualifications
The successful applicant should have a strong academic background in robotics and AI, with a clear interest in nuclear engineering and safety.
Skills
- Strong programming skills in Python, MATLAB, or similar languages
- Experience with robotics and autonomous systems
- Knowledge of nuclear safety regulations and standards
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
