About the role

The PhD project aims to develop technologies, methodologies, and assurance frameworks to enable humans and robotic systems to operate safely, efficiently, and collaboratively within a shared nuclear environment.

Responsibilities

  • Develop novel technologies enabling safe human-robot collaboration
  • Create new safety and assurance methodologies for nuclear robotics
  • Support regulatory acceptance through established frameworks
  • Demonstrate operational capabilities within representative nuclear environments
  • Enhance workforce safety and reduce radiological exposure for operators
  • Increase operational efficiency across various nuclear facilities

Requirements

  • A first degree classified at 1st (or equivalent) in Robotics and AI or a closely related subject
  • An MSc in robotics or a related area is highly desirable

Qualifications

The successful applicant should have a strong academic background in robotics and AI, with a clear interest in nuclear engineering and safety.

Skills

  • Strong programming skills in Python, MATLAB, or similar languages
  • Experience with robotics and autonomous systems
  • Knowledge of nuclear safety regulations and standards
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
