Pharmacy Technician Trainee Program (JR224832)
This is a trainee program designed to prepare individuals for a career as a Pharmacy Technician at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center. Successful completion of the program may lead to a full-time Pharmacy Technician position.
About the Role
This paid, full-time training program combines classroom instruction with hands-on experience in a hospital pharmacy setting. Trainees will learn pharmacy operations, medication preparation, inventory management, and patient safety protocols under the supervision of licensed pharmacists and experienced technicians.
Responsibilities
- Attend and actively participate in all classroom and lab training sessions.
- Complete assigned coursework, quizzes, and competency assessments.
- Perform pharmacy tasks under direct supervision, including medication dispensing, compounding, and inventory control.
- Adhere to all hospital and pharmacy policies, procedures, and safety guidelines.
- Maintain accurate and confidential patient records in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Demonstrate professionalism, teamwork, and effective communication with pharmacy staff, healthcare providers, and patients/families.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- No prior pharmacy experience required; however, customer service or healthcare experience is a plus.
- Basic math and computer skills (ability to perform calculations and use pharmacy software).
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
- Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 25 pounds.
- Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including weekends and holidays, as required by the training program and potential future role.
- Must successfully pass a drug screen and background check prior to program start.
- Must be eligible to register as a Pharmacy Technician Trainee with the Ohio State Board of Pharmacy upon acceptance into the program.

Schedule
Full-time, 40 hours per week. Training hours are typically Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–4:30 PM, with potential evening, weekend, or holiday shifts as the program progresses.
Location: Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center (main campus or satellite locations).
