About the Role
Kindred Hospital South Florida - Coral Gables is a 55-bed freestanding long-term acute care hospital offering extended recovery care. We provide 24-hour clinical care seven days a week in partnership with your physician. Our facility is located less than 4 miles from downtown Coral Gables, surrounded by shops and restaurants.
Responsibilities
- Assists Pharmacist to prepare and dispense medication under direct supervision.
- Mixes pharmaceutical preparations, fills bottles with prescribed tablets and capsules, and prepares labels for bottles.
- Fills orders with correct medications and prepares unit of use dosage when possible.
- Processes records of medication and equipment dispensed to patients, computes charges, and enters data in computer.
- Prepares intravenous (IV) packs using aseptic technique with the laminar air flow hood.
- Generates required reports, including pick IV and production reports.
- Performs backup procedures correctly, recycles product as appropriate, and updates prep/expiration dates on recycled product.
- Prioritizes work (e.g., stats made first) and delivers IV solutions to proper locations.
- Restocks shelves, rotates stock, and properly disposes of non-recyclable solutions.
- Maintains IV refrigerator temperature log.
- Receives and stores incoming supplies, counts stock, and maintains inventory records in the computer.
- Returns medications to stock, rotates stock, and fills requisitions from nursing floors in a timely fashion.
- Calculates appropriate medication doses based on patient’s age (Adult and Geriatrics).
- Cleans equipment and sterilizes glassware according to prescribed methods.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- State Certification/Licensure if required by state.
- Minimum of 1 year of experience as a Pharmacy Technician in a hospital pharmacy setting preferred.
- Basic understanding of the role and use of a computer in processing prescription orders with minimum word processing skills.
