About the role
Avera Pharmacy Plaza 2 offers a regular day shift position in Sioux Falls, SD. The pay range for this position is $19.25 - $28.00 per hour, with actual pay rates dependent on experience. This entry-level position is eligible for a $3,000-$4,000 sign-on bonus.
Responsibilities
- Assists in drug preparation, storage, distribution, and inventory management within various pharmacy environments.
- Participates in and completes Avera Health's Pharmacy Technician Education Program to prepare for PTCB certification and register as a Pharmacy Technician.
- Under pharmacist supervision, accurately inputs and/or prepares labels and packages for inpatient or outpatient medication orders and prescriptions.
- Demonstrates proficient knowledge of medications, calculations, regulations, and personal protective equipment to ensure high-quality patient care and compliance.
- Communicates effectively with nursing staff, physicians, customers, co-workers, supervisors, and management to promote high-quality communication and prevent patient harm.
- Performs clerical functions such as billing, patient demographics, and pharmacy inventory to promote an efficient medication distribution system.
- Assists with the collection and maintenance of records as needed by the Pharmacy Department and applicable accreditations.
- May assist customers on the phone or in person, run reports, and use the automated dispensing system.
- Conducts monthly inspections of medication stocks in assigned areas and assists with inventory to prevent drug shortages or excesses.
- Assists with compounding practices, such as botox and chemotherapy.
Requirements
- The individual must be able to work the hours specified.
- Must have visual acuity adequate to perform position duties and the ability to communicate effectively with others.
- Required Education: Pharmacy Technician in Training - South Dakota Board of Pharmacy, Registered with respective state's Board of Pharmacy within State requirements within 30 Days, Certified Pharmacy Technician - Board of Pharmacy, Pharmacy Technician Board Certification or alternative approved training/certification program.
- Preferred Education: High School or GED Equivalent, Less than 1 year related experience.
Qualifications
- Registered Pharmacy Technician - Board of Pharmacy, Active registration in the state of practice within 30 Days and Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) - National Healthcareer Association (NHA) or Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) - Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) upon hire.
Skills
Proficient knowledge of medications, calculations, regulations, personal protective equipment, and promotion of patient safety.
