About the role
This position is responsible for providing timely preparation and distribution of medications and IV solutions, including sterile hazardous drugs, within the hospital. Functions include chemotherapy, biotherapy, hazardous, investigational drugs, and other medications.
Responsibilities
- Dispensing chemotherapy, biotherapy, hazardous, investigational drugs, and other medications
- Proficient in sterile products preparation and USP 797/800 guidelines
- Supports patient treatment plans through collaboration with the oncology healthcare team
- Maintains adequate supply and utilizes cost-containment practices under the direction of Pharmacy Management and the pharmacist
- Aids in the timely and accurate distribution of medications
- Assists in the training of new technicians
- Performs daily, weekly, monthly, and terminal cleaning of IV admixture spaces
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Working-level knowledge of the English language, including reading, writing, and speaking English
- Algebraic calculations necessary for preparing extemporaneous compounds
- Two years of sterile compounding experience preferred, sterile hazardous drug preparation preferred
- Licensed by the Nevada State Board of Pharmacy
- Completion of a recognized Pharmacy Technician training program or national certification (CPhT, CSPT) within 6 months of hire
- Typing: 30 wpm
Qualifications
- Knowledge of pharmacy terminology and calculations
- Knowledge of proper handling of hazardous drugs
- Thorough knowledge in preparation of sterile parenteral products using proper aseptic technique
- Thorough understanding of medication order procedures involving the pharmacy computer system
- Interpersonal skills to maintain effective communication with co-workers, other hospital employees, patients, and visitors
- Working knowledge of Renown Health and specific departmental policies and procedures, as well as state and federal laws regarding pharmacy
